Events
The idea of forming the Hankham Village Society came after the success of our first event, the Hankham Great Get Together, held in the memory of Jo Cox. It was particularly poignant as the last MP to be murdered before Jo Cox was Ian Gow, MP for Eastbourne, whose constituency home was The Dog House. We are especially proud of the Hankham Great Get Together.
HVS now aims to run four or five events each year including:
a summer party, which in 2011 took the form of a Queen’s Platiinum Jubilee Party and in 2012 the King’s Coronation Party;
an annual members’ barbecue, open only to members, and is always a great success;
an annual quiz, where prizes for the top team and wooden spoons for the gallant losers are awarded;
an annual Christmas Carol singing session around the central part of the village followed by mulled pies and minced wine -or something like that;
and in 2023, we had a BUrns night, complete with haggis, neaps and tatties and a selection of whiskies to taste - and some very delicious whiskey cocktails.
So enthusiastic are the mebers of our cimmittee that they have tried to put together Hanham’s very own music festival - Hankhambury - for September 2023. Logistics just got away from them, but they have learnt much and will put on Hankhambury in 2024.
If you have any suggestions for events we ccan put on, then please send an email or talk to a membr of the committee.
Our aim is to hold three or four events each year open to all Hankham residents and their friends alike. See Upcoming Events for details of future events.
